Background: Growing up near this ranch in Paradise Valley, Ian Grant, co-owner of Bobcat Painting, drove past this property countless times. It's likely that these historic buildings hadn't been fully renovated once since they were constructed at least 80 - 100 years ago. The majority of the original paint had chipped off leaving these beautiful pieces of Livingston's history completely unprotected and in disrepair.

Process: On all of our projects, but especially older ones like this, we start by establishing a safe process to follow to make sure our production goes smoothly. We utilize all necessary PPE (personal protective equipment) and used a boom lift for the high spots that couldn't be accessed with ladders or scaffolding. We started with a thorough powerwash of every building to remove all dirt and debris that accumulated over the years. We then power-sanded the entire exterior of all the buildings to remove the outer weathered layer and create a grippy, smooth surface. This was by far the most intensive and difficult part of the job, but it's necessary to create a smooth finish that will last for decades to come. We then power-washed the buildings again to remove the dust created from the prep work.  After everything was prepped and fully cleaned off, we masked all the buildings and started spraying first a top-of-the-line primer followed by a durable, premium-quality paint. Each coat was sprayed on with an airless sprayer was then immediately brushed in so it fills all the open pores and cracks present in the weathered substrate. We finished up this project with the satisfying task of hand painting all of the white trim. This wasn't an easy task but it gives us pride every time we are driving down to Chico or Emigrant to look over and see the fresh, bright, red barn shining in front of the river.
